This Week at the Berkeley Masjid:
This week we're focusing on Philanthropy.
As winter approaches in Syria there is a pressing need for support for refugees, so the UC Berkeley Muslim Student Association and Zaytuna College's United Muslims Relief chapter are partnering to host a blanket and winter clothing drive for Syrian refugees. Berkeley Masjid is one of the many possible drop-off locations for donated items.

Meet the community:
Berkeley Masjid on Youtube:
Berkeley Masjid has its own YouTube channel where community members can review videos of past conferences, speakers and lectures. The channel has yet to be used to its full effect and requires a little TLC right now, but stay tuned for more updates and feel free to send in any videos that you believe would be an informative contribution to the channel.

Looking Into The Past:
Lena Albibi gives us insight into how it feels to be part of the Berkeley Masjid community. Her video charts the progression of the "Berkeley Masjid Project," showing key moments in the development of the mosque as well as a look into the kind of meetings held by young members of the community to discuss its future. The video also includes candid and expressive interviews of community members, providing an introduction to the young people that have been part of the mosque from the very beginning.
It is particularly fascinating to follow Lena's tour to see the mosque under construction. The bright and spacious interior is well on its way to completion, and should be compared to the present day photos seen in the "Photo Gallery" tab (under "Archive") for the visual experience!

May:
On May 26th the Berkeley Masjid Foundation (BMF) hosted a successful fundraising event centered around five guest speakers: Imam Tabir Anwar, Zahra Billoo, Sheikh Yuouf Al-Shebabi, Br. Ziad Mustafa, and Br. Yazan Ibrahim. The event was held to further the BMF's cause, detailed below:
"The BMF is committed to establishing a permanent place of worship for the Muslim community in Berkeley. Berkeley is home to one of the premier educational institutions in the world. Any given year, there are at least 300 Muslim students attending UC Berkeley. These are the best and brightest minds from around the world and represent the future of our ummah both here and abroad. Despite this notable Muslim presence, there is no established masjid to serve the community. We need your help to change this." If you'd like to make a donation to the foundation you can do so here. |
September:
On Saturday, September 21st Dr. Imad Bayoun visited the Berkeley Masjid community to talk about the relationship between the youth, community and the Masjid.
One anonymous Facebook user reflected on the event, writing:
"Personalities are unique just like fingerprints, and thus everyone has an opportunity to make a unique contribution to our deen and the well being of the people"
